"Made in Georgia" bill clears Senate committee
2/13/2008State Sen. Tim Golden's (D-Valdosta) legislation, SB 359, which creates a "Made in Georgia" campaign, designed to promote the sale of products manufactured in Georgia was unanimously approved by the Senate Economic Development Committee yesterday and now moves to the Senate Rules Committee for further action.
The legislation is designed to promote the sales of products manufactured in Georgia, and to raise the profile of Georgia's manufacturing impact on plants, people and products.
New Bush budget bad for Georgia

Teilhet targets predatory lenders
1/23/2008Today State Representative Rob Teilhet (D-Smyrna) announced that he will introduce legislation requiring marketers of "refund anticipation loans," which are high-cost loans sold to consumers as "instant tax refunds," to fully disclose the terms of the loan and make customers aware that they are entitled to receive their tax refund free of charge from the Internal Revenue Service in about 10 days by direct deposit without the need for a loan.

Democrats respond to State of the State Address
1/18/2008Georgia Democrats issued a sharp response to Governor Sonny Perdue's annual State of the State address, calling for Republicans to put their internal differences aside for the good of the state, and introducing the framework of an alternative to a controversial tax plan introduced by the Speaker of the House.
Representative Kathy Ashe (D-Atlanta) delivered the address before a crowd of Democrats, including members of the General Assembly. In the response, Ashe stressed that the Democratic agenda comes from their constituents and, "our shared values."
Three year-olds could go to pre-K
1/16/2008Georgia’s children could soon be more prepared for the classroom and do better in school under a plan proposed by House Democrats. State Representative Mary Margaret Oliver (D-Decatur), Representative Stephanie Benfield, (D-Decatur) and Rep. Kathy Ashe (D-Atlanta) have introduced legislation that would provide for a field study on expanding the popular Pre-K program to cover three year-olds. The criteria for this expanded Pre-K program would be set by the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning.
