Henry County Democratic Chairman speaks out on McCain's economic plan
GOP nominee's plan a "handout to corporations"
Jim Nichols, Chair of the Democratic Party in Henry County, responded today to John McCain's political pandering in a recent economic speech by the Republican nominee. In the speech, McCain called for a gas tax holiday.
"Citizens of Henry County and hard-working Americans across this country deserve better than handouts to corporations who are already making profits hand over fist," Nichols said. "John McCain is playing politics with the legitimate concerns of citizens in Henry County who wonder how they are going to afford to fill up their tanks this summer."
Even with a gas tax holiday as McCain proposes, oil companies have no incentives to lower prices. In fact, some economists believe that the plan actually incentivizes oil companies to raise prices.
"Instead of offering solutions McCain is promising a third term of reckless Republican economic policy," Nichols said. "We should be protecting our infrastructure and empowering our economy. Big oil should not get a free ride from citizens in Henry County filling up their tanks. We can have a strong economy that creates a win-win situation where both our businesses and our families thrive. But John McCain is showing himself to have ideas that run out of gas and leave working Americans stranded."
