Georgia Senators Isakson & Chambliss Vote Against Unemployment Benefit Extension
Washington DC – Senate Republicans, including Senators Johnny Isakson and Saxby Chambliss, blocked an extension of unemployment benefits to millions of unemployed Americans yesterday. Both of Georgia’s Republican Senators have voted against unemployment benefits multiple times in 2010.
“This comes down to values,” said Matt Weyandt, Executive Director of the Democratic Party of Georgia. “Isakson and Chambliss are more than happy to protect Wall Street and preserve tax cuts for CEOs who ship American jobs overseas, but they turn their back on the millions of Americans struggling to make ends meet in these tough economic times.”
Congressional Republicans have taken a tough stand against America’s middle-class. After spending months protecting Wall Street and defending BP, Republicans once again yanked the safety net away from the millions of Americans looking for work in this tough economy.
“If Senator Isakson questions whether unemployment benefits are an emergency, he should talk to the nearly half-million unemployed Georgians who depend on this assistance to put food on the table while they look for work,” Weyandt concluded.
WHY DID ISAKSON AND CHAMBLISS VOTE MULTIPLE TIMES AGAINST UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS FOR GEORGIA’S CITIZENS?
